Place by: From Space

The place by Space option is used to place the selected place building element being placed around the space shape.

The following detail is written in context of placing a wall. The option is used to trace single leaf walls over the boundary of a Space shape. It places walls from existing space shapes and create relationships between the walls and the space shape from which they are made.

When walls are created for a selection set of spaces, walls are placed by center, meaning the center of the walls are the same as the edges of the space shape. Duplicate walls are removed when spaces share a common edge. During this process, the space shapes are redrawn so that the space shape edges are coincident with the inside of the walls which bound them, and space areas are automatically recalculated.

Note: When tracing a selection set of spaces the space shapes adjust and align with the inside faces of the bounding walls. For rectangular spaces, the length and width of the space is reduced by the width of the wall. For best results, original space shapes should be created with this in mind. An option to easily and automatically increase spaces by a wall width factor is also provided.

When walls are created for selected spaces, the justification options determine the placing of wall at space edge:

Left justification places the wall outside of the space,
Right justification places the wall inside of the space, and
Center justification places the wall on the center of the space shape boundary.

Space shapes are then redrawn and space areas recalculated accordingly.

Unification handles the majority of all wall cleanup. All single leaf wall types placed using this tool are supported by DataGroups. Data is applied to walls at the time of placement.

Tip: The

(Join Elements) tool can be used to combine multiple collinear walls into a single wall. In some instances this may cause space shapes to become disassociated. Should this happen, the

(Update Space) tool can be used to restore space association with the walls.
